Making good

writing better

Hi, I’m George.

I am a freelance writer, copy editor and proofreader. My passion for reading and writing began when I was very young, and when I was in college, I discovered I had a talent for catching mistakes—and knowing how to correct them effectively.

I have been a freelance editor since 2007, and have done work for many clients, from aspiring authors to academic institutions and religious nonprofits. I have worked on more than a dozen books, both fiction and nonfiction. I’ve edited thousands of other writings, including product catalogs, newsletters, sermons, essays, fact sheets, scripts for TV and radio, brochures, blogs, journal articles, news releases, books, and literary and scholarly journals.

I have greatly enjoyed getting to know a diversity of people, and likewise, it has been fascinating to read a vast array of writings. I chose the slogan “Making Good Writing Better” because with any project, my goal is to help people communicate as clearly and eloquently as possible. My role is to help strengthen the writer’s voice, not change it. (Unlike some editors, I respect the “boundaries of authorship.” I maintain the writer’s style, opinions and intended meaning.) I incorporate strong writing skills, grammatical precision, extensive vocabulary and an eye for detail. A self-proclaimed eternal nitpicker, I catch things that most people don’t.

Author and President of SCP, Inc.

George was one of the top writers and probably the most knowledgable editor in our entire class at Benedictine. We had several classes together and George was always willing to help me during editing processes. As a writer for several years now, I’ve still never met anyone who knows the AP Style Manual front to back like George. He is an incredible writer and editor and any company he works for will be fortunate.

George Koch is one of the strongest editors I know. Since 2008, he has been serving as my associate editor in chief for DuPage Valley Review, Benedictine University’s prestigious magazine covering the creative arts in the Greater Chicago Area.
